Jimmy ”Rokkaz” Andersson, born and raised in the small town Fagersta, has in recent years taken the Stockholm rave culture by storm. He is current with his debut album as likely to be released during the year.
Rokkaz interest in DJing started as early as 1993, when he was only thirteen years old.
His career took off after a dj-competition in late 1993 and he started playing on everything from high school parties to weddings but it was not until around 2003 that Rokkaz took the plunge and started playing the music we hear today. However, it took a turn in Rokkaz career in Austria back in 2001, when he met music producer and DJ Jack Mörner. That’s when he decided to start playing more club-like music and his interest in music production grew.
Along with Star Media Group he began to play trance out in clubs while the interest in music production increased and endless hours were spent at home in Fruity Loops and in the club’s DJ studio.
Just a few years later, in 2003, more specifically, Rokkaz took part of the psychedelic trance culture for the first time and the meeting of aestheticians and psychedelic sounds ended with a turning point. He was almost instantly stuck to fullon and says that today fullon do not sound like it did before 2005, so it comes to keeping up to date on the sound all the time.
Fullon, just like hardstyle, became more commercially around 2005-2006 and fullon turned more to the clean, crisp melodies, but still kept the psychedelic characteristics.
So what has influenced this man?
The answer appears to be relatively simple. People and the audience on the dance floor. He is driven by all those times the cheers from the crowd drownes the speakers at concerts as a performer and DJ, that feeling is unsurpassed and something that meant a lot to fight their way through jungle of competition, bad gigs, inspiration, resolve studio sittings and general bad days in their careers.
The DJ profession and everything that has to do with aesthetics, from dance to music, requires the right heart. There will be setbacks and there will always be people who do not like what you do, but you must always remember; That as long as you´re doing it to meet your own dreams and become ecstatic with joy and with the warm sense of community in which music is formed inside yourself, the rest doesn´t matter. Aesthetics is not about how good you are, but about heart.
Or, as he says himself:
Clearly, after eight large and two strong pieces of licorice shots.
No, absolutely not, it’s as fun as it gets a little more intimate. When the DJ booth is not raised to the sky but down on the same floor level as the audience. When the audience is only 30 cm from the DJ booth and they see every little mixing, tweekning, distortion and show you are doing and are fully aware of on every note to play, when give a smile, a glance, and just go down the loose.
Simply, when the audiences are at their best gigs, no matter the size of the site.
